Turkish Cypriot Remembrance Society

launched on 17 September 2023
The Turkish Cypriot Remembrance Society was launch today 17th September 2023 by Seyyare Beyzade and the TWPA with an exhibition about Turkish Cypriot men and women that joined the Cyprus Regiment during the second world war, when Cyprus was part of the British Commonwealth. Namik Cafer (Consul), John Oates and Berna Sermet niece of Cemal Mustafa the soldier that never died all spoke at the launch.

In her speech. Seyyare Beyzade TWPA chair, said:

"Its important that we remember our ancestral history. That we remember our brave men and women: our parents, grand parents, uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters, our loved ones that volunteered to fight for our freedom. The freedom we so often take for granted. It's important that we remind the world that we were part of the British Military and fought with them not just in World war 2 but the wars that followed such as in Korea and the Suez canal wars and to teach the younger generations that we, the Turkish Cypriots had brave soldiers that were indispensable in the allied army and deserve to be honoured on remembrance day."

"Our ancestral history is being lost , we need to make a record of our families that fought in the war. The TWPA under the umbrella of the Turkish Cypriot Remembrance Society have started to build a record so we don't forget."

"We, the Turkish Cypriot community must come together and march under one name Turkish Cypriot Remembrance society, and remind the world that we fought together as part of the British military and honour our dead by laying wreaths in every remembrance day service not just in London but the whole of the UK. We need to stand proud and be counted."

"Please join us and remind the world who we are and ensure that generations to come remember our brave soldiers too, in the same way other communities honour their brave." If you have family that fought in the Cyprus Regiment or in the British Military please come forward and tell their story to Seyyare Beyzade and the TWPA so that we can make a record of it.
